The city of Schwerin boasts a unique symbiosis of art, nature and architecture in Germany. Some call her "a gem mirrored by the lake" others refer to her as "a city between lakes and forests". With 13 lakes, parks, gardens and forests within her boundaries the city combines convincingly a natural setting for culture and a cultural setting for nature.

A large number of artistic and cultural institutions enrich daily life in Schwerin. Historically grown unique collections can be found in the State Museum. The State Theatre of Mecklenburg - lavishly renovated in recent years - enjoys highest recognition for the variety of its programme. The annual highlight of the cultural calendar is the Castle Festival for Theatre and Music owing it to its unique setting in the Old Garden and the Castle.

SCHWERINER CASTLE WITH CASTLE GARDEN AND THE CASTLE MUSEUM

One of the most important examples of historism in Europe. On three floors in stylish rooms and halls a fine art collection of court life is on display. The highlights are the throne room and the gallery of ancestral portraits.

THE FESTSPIELE MECKLENBURG-VORPOMMERN

Since the first concert in 1990, the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern have developed to the third-largest classical music festival in Germany. Around 120 concerts in more than 80 venues throughout the country and the "Little Festival in the park" lure from June to September to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern..
